Biography

Hello my Name is Melanie Healey From the time I was able to hold a pencil I started drawing little girls in dresses all day long. Obsessed with drawing and painting, I began taking life drawing classes at a very early age at Henry Hudson Art Musuem and the Arts Students League. I grew up in the Bronx , and Westchester. My first year of college was a foundation year of art at The School OF Visual Arts. I then transferred to Columbus College Of Art and Design and graduated with a BFA in Advertising and fashion Illustration. In 1977. After college I freelanced at various companies in Manhattan doing several illustrations for Ideal Toy company and fashion catalogues. Because the art world became such a tough and competitive industry I furthered my skills in Purchasing, Sales and Customer Service. Marriage came in 1989 with Ray Healey and brought us a beautiful talented daughter Kyla who is an amazing Singer, Dancer , and Actress living in Los Angeles. We lived in Forest Hiils, Huntington Long Island and now we reside in Boynton Beach florida During this time, I attended several art classes at The Huntington Art League, ,Arts Students League, Boca Musuem Of Art ,, The Warehouse In West Palm beach, Plein Air Acrylic in Lake Worth with Maria Paz I work in various mediums, including, oil,pastel, watercolor, pen and ink and charcoal pencil. My creativity includes, working with jewelry, painting pottery, and refinishing small furniture items I have sold my pastels, oil and watercolors at the Huntington High School art show, and various craft shows in Forest Hills , Tea Neck, and Rumpson New Jersey. I participated at at a group show at the B.Spoke Gallery in Huntington New York. My art was exhibited at the Closepin Art show In East Hampton, Old SchoolSquare 6x6 art show in Delray Beach. .I continue to paint and draw selling various pieces to friends and others. I became a member of the Palm Beach Watercolor society in 2023 and recently attended a plein air watercolor workshop in Sicily with Kathy Fieramosca painting landscapes. I enjoy painting people, flowers, landcapes and most recently food.
